[OOC]
This is the permissions list for OOC (out of character) activity.
Answer the following questions with "yes" or "no", as well as additional information if desired.

Slowtagging: Yes!
Canon-puncturing: No, please don't.
Offensive subjects (elaborate): Katniss is pretty...uncomfortable with sex. She's not really a prude but she's pretty innocent when it comes to things past first base and a lot of the other characters in the series like to make light of it. Otherwise, she's had to grow up fast and it's hard to offend her.

[IC]
This is the permissions list for IC (in-character) activity.
Answer the following questions with "yes" or "no", as well as additional information if desired. With IC permissions, it's a good idea to elaborate on what other players can expect from your character if they choose to do any of the following:

Hugging this character: No.
Kissing this character: No.
Flirting with this character: She is probably going to roll her eyes at you, so give it a shot.
Fighting with this character: Well. She's survived two Hunger Games so if you want to fight her, feel free, but prepare to potentially get an ass kicking. Katniss is fast and wickedly good with both knife and bow.
Injuring this character (include limits and severity): Sure, but we'll need to discuss it in dropbox first.
Using telepathy/mind reading abilities on this character: Go for it. Katniss is incredibly easy to read.

General Warnings:

Katniss does not like when people startle her or touch her without warning and she will react violently. She doesn't like fire, though she won't shy away from it if she needs to use it for some reason. She doesn't like being out of control and does not use alcohol or other drugs if at all possible.

[GODMODDING]

Johanna Mason, Finnick Odair, Annie Cresta, Peeta Mellark.

Katniss Everdeen is a survivor. Born in the poorest part of the poorest district of Panem, everything that Katniss has is something she fought for tooth and nail. Her father died in a mining accident when she was only eleven and with her mother in a deep depression from the shock of it, it was up to Katniss to figure out a way to provide for herself and her sister, Prim. She struggles at first and at her lowest point, a gift of bread from baker’s son Peeta Mellark is enough to sustain her until she can get on her feet once again.

With a combination of the hunting and gathering skills she learned from her father and the tesserae granted by the Capitol in exchange for extra entries into the The Hunger Games, the Capitol’s sick tradition of choosing boys and girls to fight to the death as a reminder that rebellion is forbidden, Katniss found a way to keep herself and Prim alive and, by standards in the Seam, to thrive against adversity. While in the woods, she meets fellow hunter Gale and the two of them make a decent living by poaching off the Capitol’s land and selling the meat on the black market. It’s a hard life but not without bright spots.

Katniss’ hunting allows her to prevent Prim from entering her name more than once in the Reaping and really, the odds were in Prim’s favor. Of all the kids in District 12, she only had one entry. One chance in thousands of slips that her name could be called but it was Prim, not Katniss, whose name was read out on Reaping Day. Unable to fathom her sister going into the arena to kill or be killed, she volunteers. She is the first volunteer from 12 in as long as anyone can remember. Her District partner? None other than the Boy with the Bread.

District 12 is almost always at a disadvantage because it’s the smallest and poorest but Katniss and Peeta both show promise and strength, so much so that the only other victor from 12, Haymitch Abernathy, sobers up long enough to help them. Peeta and Haymitch concoct a story that he has been in love with Katniss since the first time he ever saw her and Katniss plays along, eventually culminating in a last-ditch effort to save them both by committing suicide in the arena and ending with them both being crowned victors of the 74th Hunger Games.

This trick, choosing to eat poison berries with Peeta than be forced to kill him, is seen in the districts as defying the Capitol’s totalitarian rule and incites a rebellion. The ruthless President Snow reminds Katniss that not even a victor of the Hunger Games is immune from his power and threatens all she loves if she doesn’t go through with convincing the entire country she’s madly in love with Peeta. She tries, with varying degrees of success, and shortly after announcing her engagement to him the rules for the 75th Hunger Games are read:

Only existing victors will be reaped.

As Katniss is the only female victor from 12, she has to go back into the arena but this time, she intends not to come out alive. She owes Peeta for her life and hates seeing a debt remain unpaid. Peeta is the voice of this revolution, not her, and she will keep him alive even if it means sacrificing herself. Too bad his agenda is completely the opposite.

Katniss enters the game after destroying the force field surrounding the arena, prior to being rescued by rebels at the end of Catching Fire.

History

Katniss Everdeen is a survivor. Born in the poorest part of the poorest district of Panem, everything that Katniss has is something she fought for tooth and nail. Her father died in a mining accident when she was only eleven and with her mother in a deep depression from the shock of it, it was up to Katniss to figure out a way to provide for herself and her sister, Prim.

This trick is seen in the districts as defying the Capitol’s totalitarian rule and incites a rebellion.

After destroying the Arena with a perfectly-aimed shot at the force field surrounding it, Katniss is rescued by the rebels of District 13 and Peeta is taken to the Capitol.

Katniss originally left her canon at the end of Catching Fire but through her three years at [community profile] all_inclusive, she has been updated to the very beginning of Mockingjay.

Personality:

Katniss survives. She’s tough as nails and has been fighting against the odds her entire life, which makes her an ideal candidate for the Hunger Games even if she is from the poorest district. She is resourceful and clever as both a hunter and a tracker and feels more comfortable in the woods than she does in a room full of people. While she puts up a front of being fierce and untouchable, she is sensitive to the pain and misfortune of others and cannot stand to see suffering; she notes that she’d never be able to withhold pain medicine from a patient because the pain that is present is the pain that is too much to bear.

Katniss has trouble expressing how she feels. She loves, deeply and true, but has trouble qualifying that love in words. She does things to show when she feels most strongly and she’s a terrible actress. While she can lie, it’s rarely with success, and she does better when she’s simply being herself. In this, she’s a foil to the eloquent Peeta, who is so easily able to manipulate the hearts of those in the Capitol and make them feel invested in his and Katniss’ sham of a romance. Her strongest relationship is with her sister, who can understand her and know her as well as Katniss knows herself and she has never shown much interest in anything romantic in spite of both Gale and Peeta’s interest in her.

She can be bitter and hold onto grudges. Even years after her father’s death and her mother’s recovery from depression, she still holds it against her that Mrs. Everdeen nearly let she and Prim die through indifference. She has trouble trusting that her mother won’t ever do that again and a betrayal of Katniss’ trust is not something she easily gets over. She doesn’t like owing favors either and will go to great lengths to avoid a debt. She thinks she can never forgive Peeta for his act of kindness, even if he would do that and much, much more solely because he cares for her.

While she’s thrust forward as the face of a revolution, Katniss isn’t the kind of person to seek power. She merely wants her family safe and her freedom untouched, two things that her involvement with the Capitol pretty much guarantees will never happen. She is a simple girl who only wants the simple things in life: a day to hunt, food in her belly, her sister’s embrace. She isn’t idealistic and high-minded and she’s not a political mastermind like Snow, Coin or the other major players in the rebellion.

After her rescue in Catching Fire and her arrival into [community profile] all_inclusive, Katniss has suffered PTSD and panic attacks. She feels these are a crippling weakness, a way that Snow still has a hold on her even from far away, and she shuts down rather than dealing with the prospect of facing that fear because it, unlike a wild animal or an opponent in the Arena, is something intangible and something that reminds her of the way her mother failed her and Prim long ago. It's something she's working toward accepting and only after she accepts it can Katniss possibly work through her issues.

Powers/Abilities/Talents: Katniss is skilled with a bow and knives and is also quite knowledgeable about edible plants, camping and general survival. She is also a fair singer, with a folksy sort of voice. Notably, her voice is so pleasing to listen to that the mockingjays in 12 would often pick up her songs and sing them back.

AU/CR AU Addendum:

In [community profile] all_inclusive, Katniss has dealt with gaining and losing several of her castmates and has continued to not deal with the anxiety that first presented in canon with Mockingjay. That particular game has allowed Katniss to avoid going back to Panem and she has developed a strong avoidance reaction to any of the doors that would take her back to 12, the Arena or even somewhere she has no real history with such as District 4 or District 5. Since updating to Mockingjay, Katniss has learned to cope by not coping and pushes down her fear and anxiety in order to get through day to day.

In doing so, she has formed a close friendship with Johanna and Annie, who are dealing with their own PTSD in varying ways. Katniss' journey in [community profile] all_inclusive is on-going but she comes to [community profile] medietas_logs with three years of additional experience with a troubling and serious psychological disorder.

What 4 items would you like your character to have with them on the island during their stay? bow (with arrows), a small black pearl from Peeta Mellark, her father's hunting jacket, a locket with pictures of her mother, father and Prim.

First Person:

[Katniss doesn't like parties. She's never liked being around a crush of people she doesn't know and while she's not shy, she's just uncomfortable with the idea of being gracious and kind and pretending to care about someone she doesn't know. It's all she does in the Capitol, though, and when Peeta isn't around to save her from putting her foot in her mouth things don't always go as planned. Currently, she's next to some wealthy fashion designer who's looking to take Cinna's place.]

Look, I'm not really the one you need to talk to. You probably need to talk to a Gamesmaker or something. All I do is wear the clothes.

[They keep pushing, thrusting a small book of designs on her. They love her dresses so much, the ones she's been making since retiring to Victor's Village, and wouldn't they love if she asked them to do the wedding? Katniss grits her teeth.]

Yeah. Well, you know how it is in 12. We wear burlap sacks to the wedding, drink alcohol from illegal stills and then go burn some bread before calling it a marriage. How are you in burlap?

[The designer just doesn't get that Katniss is insulting her or, apparently, doesn't care, so Katniss just walks away. Let Effie clean up this mess, she's done.]

Finally, out of the 4 words, pick one: Chimes, lake, gravel, or sun. Salt Gravel.

Her throat is still swollen, her words cracked and strained, her skin a blossom of bruises from the strength of his hands. When Katniss looks in the mirror, she still sees the outline of his fingerprints, stark purple against the pale of her skin. She's paler now, in 13, never sees the sun. This is the most color she's had in years.

It doesn't stop her from going back. Every day, she goes into that room and she stands at the door and just watches him. He seethes at her, eyes black with hate, but she doesn't care. Peeta Mellark is in there, somewhere, and Katniss is going to find him. She's going to draw him back out again and make him remember that what they have is stronger than the venom and poison and lies that Snow has twisted and folded into his brain.

What they have is stronger than Snow. What they have is stronger than everything.

Today, she doesn't bother covering up the bruises with makeup. Makeup has never been her, nor costumes, and if Peeta is ever going to accept her again, he's going to need to see her and not something that Effie has created to put on a show. He needs to see the girl in the pouring rain, the one who would crawl through the mud for burned bread just so she can survive. That's the Katniss that Peeta loves, that determined, brave girl, and she intends to show him that.

Does it matter that she hardly feels brave anymore, that she feels like she's just a pawn that's traded possession from Snow to Coin and back again? No. Maybe Peeta is the one who's good at playing an audience and putting on a show but Katniss has learned a trick or two herself. She knows how to get the reaction she needs to get when she needs to get it.

He's still tied down when she comes in and Katniss isn't sure if that's for her protection to protect him from himself. It makes her heart catch in her throat and she coughs loudly, clearing it.

"Are you going to try to kill me today? Because eventually, you're going to learn it's never going to happen and I'm never going to stop trying."

Why do you want to play this character in Ten Forward, and what do you plan to do with them?

I want to play Katniss in [community profile] ten_fwd because I have the opportunity to play off an Annie and Finnick as well as a Johanna and it is my hope that a settled Finnick and Annie would provide a safe environment for Katniss to finally start working through her issues and genuinely change for the better. A particularly appealing thing about [community profile] ten_fwd in particular is the presence of Deanna Troi, who I feel like could provide meaningful CR in the form of therapy and while Katniss would be avoidant and adversarial at first, I feel like Deanna would be a good person to pull her out of the spiral she's currently in.

The idea of giving thanks at harvest time is something that Katniss has never experienced before coming here to the Nexus. Everything they've ever had has gone straight to the Capitol and it's hard to give thanks when you're barely eking by month to month. Katniss has known many, many nights when she hasn't had enough to eat and it's only now after months of good food in the Nexus that she's let go of that hunger a little. She's also let go a little of her fear, for good or ill, and she thinks it might be good for those of them from Panem to get together and give thanks for what they have.

She has to give thanks to Peeta first and foremost. He's been instrumental in helping her adjust to being in a new world and, more recently, he's become a rock that she's become dependent on. He'd helped her get together the meal with things from all the districts, not just 12, and Katniss hopes there's something agreeable on the table to everyone. She arranged for a little corner of the hotel restaurant to be cordoned off for them, like a private party, and she thinks that will be for the best if they're going to remember people they've lost.

"So, um, I'm glad you all came. This is something I read about in a book, a holiday that I guess was around before Panem was Panem and all that. I thought it would be good to have a chance to give thanks for what we have and to remember who we've lost, if that's something you want?"

Katniss looks to Peeta for support because she's never been good at words. "And, in a way, I guess we're all family now."
