CHARACTER
Name Katniss Everdeen
Canon The Hunger Games
Age Approximately 17/18. At her canon point, it's uncertain if Katniss has had her birthday yet (May 8) because they are at war.
Birthright Jewel Summer sky, per RNG
Dreams made flesh
Katniss really just wants to be left alone. It's a very simple wish on the face but it's more complicated than that considering the nature of Panem and her status as a victor. After winning her first Hunger Games, Katniss thought she was free of being Reaped and had a chance to help lower her sister's chances of being Reaped because her economic status drastically changed; President Snow, her main antagonist, ensured she'd get Reaped again into another Games and then all-out war broke out in Panem.
Katniss has lost a lot. She wants the war to be over and for people to be able to heal. She wants a quiet place to live where she can hunt and gather and she wants a chance to remember the people she's lost and love the people who are left. It's a simple wish but it's one that aligns with Fayura in a way, too, since Katniss very much wants to heal the land of Panem and she wants the world to be right again.
Canon point
I'm pulling Katniss from Mockingjay when she's part of the active rebellion. At this point in her canon, several of the districts have rebelled and the Capitol has waged war against the separatists in 13 and the districts who are rebelling against them and not producing their quotas. She's currently not on the front lines for the most part and is a figurehead, recording propaganda pieces to air on hijacked Capitol television. I'm bringing her from after a hospital is bombed in District 8, shortly after Katniss insists on seeing real fighting, and she has guilt about the deaths being her fault.
Canon Powers
Katniss is a baseline human being. She's got good aim with a bow and great reflexes, something I do think would be enhanced by her jewel. She's only wearing Summer Sky, so I imagine she's just going to be able to hear a little better and be a little quicker on the draw. I know being Blood (sort-of) and wearing a Jewel means her metabolism will be higher so that's something Katniss will have to adjust to. She spent the majority of her early life functionally starving so she's used to hunger but I think this will be very different for her and be a learning curve.
Personality
Katniss survives. She’s tough as nails and has been fighting against the odds her entire life, which makes her an ideal candidate for the Hunger Games even if she is from the poorest district. She is resourceful and clever as both a hunter and a tracker and feels more comfortable in the woods than she does in a room full of people. While she puts up a front of being fierce and untouchable, she is sensitive to the pain and misfortune of others and cannot stand to see suffering; she notes that she’d never be able to withhold pain medicine from a patient because the pain that is present is the pain that is too much to bear.
Katniss has trouble expressing how she feels. She loves, deeply and true, but has trouble qualifying that love in words. She does things to show when she feels most strongly and she’s a terrible actress. While she can lie, it’s rarely with success, and she does better when she’s simply being herself. In this, she’s a foil to the eloquent Peeta, who is so easily able to manipulate the hearts of those in the Capitol and make them feel invested in his and Katniss’ sham of a romance. Her strongest relationship is with her sister, who can understand her and know her as well as Katniss knows herself and she has never shown much interest in anything romantic in spite of both Gale and Peeta’s interest in her.
She can be bitter and hold onto grudges. Even years after her father’s death and her mother’s recovery from depression, she still holds it against her that Mrs. Everdeen nearly let she and Prim die through indifference. She has trouble trusting that her mother won’t ever do that again and a betrayal of Katniss’ trust is not something she easily gets over. She doesn’t like owing favors either and will go to great lengths to avoid a debt. She thinks she can never forgive Peeta for his act of kindness, even if he would do that and much, much more solely because he cares for her.
While she’s thrust forward as the face of a revolution, Katniss isn’t the kind of person to seek power. She merely wants her family safe and her freedom untouched, two things that her involvement with the Capitol pretty much guarantees will never happen. She is a simple girl who only wants the simple things in life: a day to hunt, food in her belly, her sister’s embrace. She isn’t idealistic and high-minded and she’s not a political mastermind like Snow, Coin or the other major players in the rebellion.
After her rescue in Catching Fire and her arrival into District 13, Katniss has suffered PTSD and panic attacks. She feels these are a crippling weakness, a way that Snow still has a hold on her even from far away, and she shuts down rather than dealing with the prospect of facing that fear because it, unlike a wild animal or an opponent in the Arena, is something intangible and something that reminds her of the way her mother failed her and Prim long ago. It's something she's working toward accepting and only after she accepts it can Katniss possibly work through her issues.
In Draega, Katniss is going to struggle greatly with the social strata. The idea of a ruling class and a worker class is the exact thing she's been working against for the last several years so Blood oppression of landens and landen uprisings are going to remind her sharply of the conflicts between the Capitol and she will bristle against the Blood. It will be difficult for her to keep in mind that she's working with Fayura and her goal is to bring people together and not have the landen overthrow the Blood; I feel this will be a unique challenge and something very different from my other character, Sansa, who is more neutral and has experience in bringing opposing parties to the table to negotiate.
Katniss will also struggle with wearing a Jewel. Hers was selected through RNG (Summer Sky) but I did select one of the lighter of the presented Jewels solely because augmentations are something she strongly associates with the Capitol and their excessive, over-the-top way of life. She will appreciate the slight boost in speed and strength she'll get from wearing a Jewel but she's not going to be one to use it for any little thing. She will be likely to strike out on her own and side more with the landen guilds over the Blood in most things but she will have to learn how to bring them together to achieve her (and Fayura's goal) and not get on the bad side of the Ebon Council. I look forward to the eventual conflict; Katniss is a character that lends herself to conflict and difficulty with people.
History
Katniss Everdeen is a survivor. Born in the poorest part of the poorest district of Panem, everything that Katniss has is something she fought for tooth and nail. Her father died in a mining accident when she was only eleven and with her mother in a deep depression from the shock of it, it was up to Katniss to figure out a way to provide for herself and her sister, Prim. She struggles at first and at her lowest point, a gift of bread from baker’s son Peeta Mellark is enough to sustain her until she can get on her feet once again.
With a combination of the hunting and gathering skills she learned from her father and the tesserae granted by the Capitol in exchange for extra entries into the The Hunger Games, Katniss found a way to keep herself and Prim alive and, by standards in the Seam, to thrive against adversity. While in the woods, she meets fellow hunter Gale and the two of them make a decent living by poaching off the Capitol’s land and selling the meat on the black market. It’s a hard life but not without bright spots.
Katniss’ hunting allows her to prevent Prim from entering her name more than once in the Reaping and really, the odds were in Prim’s favor. Of all the kids in District 12, she only had one entry. One chance in thousands of slips that her name could be called but it was Prim, not Katniss, whose name was read out on Reaping Day. Unable to fathom her sister going into the arena to kill or be killed, she volunteers. She is the first volunteer from 12 in as long as anyone can remember. Her District partner? None other than the Boy with the Bread.
District 12 is almost always at a disadvantage because it’s the smallest and poorest but Katniss and Peeta both show promise and strength, so much so that the only other victor from 12, Haymitch Abernathy, sobers up long enough to help them. Peeta and Haymitch concoct a story that he has been in love with Katniss since the first time he ever saw her and Katniss plays along, eventually culminating in a last-ditch effort to save them both by committing suicide in the arena and ending with them both being crowned victors of the 74th Hunger Games.
This trick is seen in the districts as defying the Capitol’s totalitarian rule and incites a rebellion. The ruthless President Snow reminds Katniss that not even a victor of the Hunger Games is immune from his power and threatens all she loves if she doesn’t go through with convincing the entire country she’s madly in love with Peeta. She tries, with varying degrees of success, and shortly after announcing her engagement to him the rules for the 75th Hunger Games are read:
Only existing victors will be reaped.
As Katniss is the only female victor from 12, she has to go back into the arena but this time, she intends not to come out alive. She owes Peeta for her life and hates seeing a debt remain unpaid. Peeta is the voice of this revolution, not her, and she will keep him alive even if it means sacrificing herself. Too bad his agenda is completely the opposite. After destroying the Arena with a perfectly-aimed shot at the force field surrounding it, Katniss is rescued by the rebels of District 13 and Peeta is taken to the Capitol.
While in 13, Katniss learns of the other districts rebelling and is enlisted to be the face of that rebellion by filming propaganda films to hijack the Capitol network and fuel the fires. She is a poor actress on green screen and is sent to District 8 to visit a hospital and see the war first-hand; while there, the Capitol bombs the hospital trying to get to her. Katniss leaves with renewed vitriol against Snow and his government and intense guilt about the innocent people who died because she came to see them.

Here is a lengthy network sample with some threading.
This thread with Tyrion highlights just how terrible Katniss is with people and how much she will chafe against Protocol and the position of Blood and landen in Draega. Only after being counseled by someone with much more social savvy does Katniss see the reasoning in being subtle and this shows how she does need a (incredibly patient) guide to help her keep from having her head stay on her shoulders for any length of time.

( In spite of wearing one of their Jewels, Katniss feels very little sympathy for the Blood. They seem too much like the Capitol to her, sneering down their noses at the landens who don't have magic. When she hears about landens vandalizing the city and joining up in gangs to terrorize the Blood by night, it reminds her of how the rebellion started in 8 and how everyone fought to keep it going. She's in favor of it.
Still, she's living in the Queen's residence right now and she wears one of their Jewels, so she's not really sure how to indicate to the landen guilds that she's on their side and not on the side of the Blood. Katniss sneaks out at night and manages to catch the landens vandalizing a Blood-owned shop, writing "bleeder" along the storefront. They panic when she shows up but she holds up a hand. )
I'm with you. I'm a Stranger, not Blood. I wouldn't even wear this thing if it didn't make my aim better and my reflexes faster. I'm not doing any Craft or magic with it, that's for sure.
( Someone approaches from behind her and Katniss whips around. She could really get used to the fact that her hearing is a little advanced by this Jewel. She wears it in a little pin. It's not her Mockingjay pin but it serves well enough for now. )
